How to use this site

Spoken Local is designed to help you discover great bike touring routes and the local places that make those rides memorable. We don’t try to replace every bike-planning tool out there, instead, we focus on the parts of the journey where local knowledge matters most.

How SpokenLocal fits into trip planning

Most bike trips follow three key stages. Here’s how Spoken Local supports each one.

Stage 1: Ideation — Dreaming & Discovery

This is often the most fun part of planning a trip. Spoken Local shines here by:

  • Aggregating bike touring routes from different regions
  • Helping you explore what’s possible before you commit to a plan
  • Surfacing routes that locals actually ride

Use this stage to browse, compare, and get inspired.

2. Planning — Ironing out the details

Once you’ve chosen a route, you’ll want more detailed planning tools.

While Spoken Local won’t:

  • Provide turn-by-turn navigation

We will:

  • Link out to trusted external resources for maps, navigation, and logistics
  • Help you understand what’s along the way so you can plan smarter

Think of Spoken Local as your context layer, not your GPS.

3. While You’re on the Ride!

While on the ride, Spoken Local helps you:

  • Find bike-friendly lodging, campgrounds, and services
  • Discover local businesses worth supporting
  • Identify meaningful stops that break up long days in the saddle

We focus on useful stops, so you can ride with confidence and engage with the communities you pass through.
