Texas lawmakers have passed House Bill 4230, establishing the Texas Bicentennial Trail, a planned 100-mile network of hike-and-bike paths that will connect the historic Alamo in San Antonio to the State Capitol in Austin in time for the state’s 200th anniversary of independence in 2036. The trail will link key natural springs and historic sites across Central Texas and is being developed through a partnership of state agencies, local governments, and the Great Springs Project nonprofit, with public input guiding planning; it also includes a provision barring the use of eminent domain for land acquisition.
